Can you tell us a little about your background and how you rose to where you are today?

I graduated from Purdue University with a major in Restaurant, Hotel and Institutional Management, and have been a Certified Senior Advisor since 2003 and a Registered Financial Consultant since 2009.

I started my career off in the hospitality industry but later felt that I would be better off doing something else. I was much more passionate about finance, so I shifted my focus to the financial services industry.

I decided to specialize in financial planning, which was becoming increasingly accessible to the middle class in the 1980s. I secured a job with an insurance company as a Financial Planning Consultant and later worked for several other companies.

After gaining considerable experience in the financial industry, I was confident that I could offer my financial services to target clients by establishing my own firm. In 1994, a friend and I founded Financial Management Group, which operated successfully for 16 years before we mutually separated. I then founded Gary Scheer, LLC, and I am a Managing Director at RedwoodTaxSpecialists1040.com

What exactly is Gary Scheer, LLC, and what kind of products or services do you provide?

Gary Scheer is a holistic tax and retirement planning firm. We work with a team of tax planning experts to help professionals, business owners, and executives reduce their taxes. For more than three decades, we have been helping our clients preserve, protect, and pass on their wealth to the people and causes they care about deeply.

What is one obstacle you have faced in your entrepreneurial journey, and how did you overcome it?

In the initial stages of my entrepreneurial journey, it was challenging to approach the target clients who would pay the right price for my financial consulting services. I targeted low-net-worth individuals, and this turned out to be not profitable.

I decided to change strategy and invested more resources into in-depth research about consumers who would need my services. I discovered that it’s high-net-worth individuals that mostly look for sophisticated financial consulting services. My business started bringing profitable returns when I shifted my focus to this target audience.

You are also an author. Can you share with us a little about your books or publication?

I co-authored Successonomics with Steve Forbes and Retire Abundantly with Scott Keffer.

Do you engage in any corporate social responsibility or humanitarian activity?

I am passionate about giving back to the community and regularly contribute to charities, including the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest, Gottesman RTW Academy, Morristown Rotary Club, and Special Olympics.

Do you have an important message you would like to share with our readers and entrepreneurs?

The fear of failing shouldn’t pull you back from taking chances. Understand that things will not always go according to plan, but giving up should be the last option when things get tough. You should also be open-minded to learning and implementing new ideas.
