For retired Richmond, California, police officer Sammie Lee Hill, mentorship has never been just a passion. It has been a lifelong commitment to helping young people believe in themselves and pursue a brighter future.

After spending years serving his community in law enforcement, Hill dedicated himself to mentoring youth, encouraging them to stay in school, make positive choices and prepare for the opportunities ahead. His commitment inspired the creation of the world’s first award-winning “Mentor Theme Song,” a project he believes can inspire people of all ages. Today, that vision continues to grow through a new partnership with the Money Mentor Foundation, where the song will be used as part of educational efforts centered on financial literacy, life skills and personal growth.

With a docuseries based on his life currently in development, Hill reflects on the experiences that shaped his journey, why mentorship matters more than ever and the legacy he hopes will continue to inspire future generations.

You spent years serving as a police officer, but you also took on the role of mentor for young people who were often overlooked or facing difficult circumstances. What inspired you to make mentorship such an important part of your life’s mission?

Sammie: I always wanted to encourage and motivate young people to become positive and productive role models in our society. Young people are our future Leaders and without Mentorship, the young people would not be guided in the proper direction.

Many people talk about wanting to make a difference, but you took action by showing up for youth in your community. What were some of the biggest challenges you saw young people facing, and how did you work to help them overcome those obstacles?

Sammie: My positive advice for young people to always stay or remain focused. I believe the biggest challenges were keeping them to stay in school and pursue higher learning. In fact, this was my primary objective for creating the Student Principal of The Year project to help them prepare for college.

The “Mentor Theme Song” is such a unique concept. What was the inspiration behind creating a song dedicated to the power of mentorship, and what message did you want people to take away from it?

Sammie: The Mentor Theme Song is a God’s Blessing Gift. The song purposes is to inspire the young as well as the old. The Lyrics send a very powerful message for the young people as to encourage them to stay in school and to avoid negative environment.

The song was originally connected with Mexican actress and singer Belinda, and although that opportunity did not happen at that time, your vision continued to grow. What did that experience teach you about timing, perseverance, and trusting the journey?

Sammie: The International music contract with Belinda was signed in October 2020 has not yet expired. In fact, it’s a 10 year contract agreement with 4 years remaining. Timing is everything where I created this world first award-winning Mentor Theme Song in Global History in 1999. The song inspiration speaks for itself without a single doubt.

You are now partnering with the Money Mentor Foundation, bringing the “Mentor Theme Song” into a larger mission focused on financial literacy, life skills, and empowering the next generation. Why is combining mentorship and financial education so important today?

Sammie: Combining the world first award-winning Mentor Theme Song with Money Mentor Foundation is a true inspiration for educational purposes as a learning tool for young people. It’s a inspiring task for them to learn the value of different topics.

After more than 20 years of teaching financial literacy and over 30 years of literacy work, what do you believe is one of the biggest misconceptions young people and families have about success, money, and creating opportunities?

Sammie: I believe in one of the biggest misconceptions is that the young people are not getting the full scale of Life Reality in certain Mandatory areas. We must teach the young people at a early stage in life to prepare for the bigger picture for world challenges.

A docuseries/film about your life and mentorship journey is currently in pre-production. What parts of your story do you hope audiences understand when they see your journey brought to the screen?

Sammie: The MENTOR HILL television series, which is only in Development where it’s based on my Life true events. Its focused on Good and Bad, but to never give up on your Journey. There will be struggles and hardships, but always pursue your Dream.

Looking back at the young people you mentored throughout the years, are there any moments or success stories that remind you why you committed yourself to this work?

Sammie: Looking back at the students that I mentored some of them are now Teachers, Police Officers, Nurses and Firefighters. I must say that some of them or either my Facebook or Instagram friends, who requested to stay in touch with me on a positive note.

What role do you believe mentors play in changing communities, especially when young people may not have positive examples or support systems around them?

Sammie: Mentors play a positive role for young people. That’s a fact, cause I was mentored by two Police Officers at a early age in !ife, and this is exactly why I became a Law Enforcement Police Officer myself. If it wasn’t for these two officers, I would have probably ended up as a high school dropout or perhaps incarcerated behind Prison bars.

As you continue this next chapter with the Mentor Theme Song, your upcoming film, and your partnership with Money Mentor Foundation, what is the legacy you hope to leave behind for future generations?

Sammie: The Mentor Theme Song will be around for Generation to come. This is my Legacy to inspire the world on a Global Level with this incredible song along with the MENTOR HILL television series, which will be a ever lasting effect on people worldwide.
