Richard Ficarelli is a prominent social media influencer well-known as both a drummer and an enthusiast of all things “rock ’n’ roll”. He is distinguished for more than just his drumming skills. Despite being only 28 years old, he has built a loyal following across various social media platforms and is responsible for generating viral videos to date on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. His ambitions started from an early age and that fire for entertainment has yet to show any signs of slowing down.
A Day in the Life of an Online Musician/Social Media Influencer
How did Richard Ficarelli become a prominent influencer on social media? It really comes down to him always being an early adapter when it comes to technology. He was a featured performer on the 2011 iteration of the DigiTour, which was the world’s first music tour for social media stars, sponsored by YouTube. Since then, he has been building his online presence on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. On a platform like TikTok in particular, anybody has the ability to connect directly with those that share their interests. So, although Richard may not have originally set out to become an “influencer”, the path found him. Evolving as a creator over the past ten or so years has seemed effortless for Richard, who understands how to remain both flexible and consistent while maintaining his brand.
Richard notes that a typical day for him revolves around content creation. This includes developing concepts for both short-form videos on his TikTok account, as well as proper full-scale productions for his YouTube Channel. The backend of audio & video production can be fairly time-consuming, but Richard finds that it is rewarding to be fully self-sufficient in all aspects of the creative process. When it comes to the equipment used for creating his content, Richard notes that top-of-the-line, expensive equipment isn’t always needed. He has been known to shoot entire videos on his iPhone alone stating that “utilizing these tools we all have at our disposal helps facilitate an even more authentic connection with your audience”.
That authentic connection is something very important to Richard. Ficarelli understands that he has a certain level of responsibility when it comes to what he chooses to post online, sharing with us: “I do my best to create an environment with my little corner of the internet that takes the edge off of day-to-day life. My job is to share music and share a laugh with my audience, it’s my ambition to never make anyone feel alienated from being welcomed and accepted just as they are.”
A social media influencer holds a certain power over their audience. Their influence, perspective, position, or relationship with their followers might persuade others to take their lead. Richard has embraced the position he is in by thoughtfully creating content that allows for lighthearted relationships with his viewers. The videos he shares across his platforms are genuine and positive.
He is also careful not to post anything that doesn’t reflect his personal values and beliefs. In a world where social media can often be negative and overwhelming, Richard provides a much-needed breath of fresh air. He is living proof that you can be successful online by simply being authentic and positive.
Music in conjunction with a certain self-awareness and dash of comedy can be very powerful. Richard draws inspiration from greats like The Beatles, The Monkees, and Spinal Tap. He has been quite fortunate that both himself and his audience seem to get the most joy out of the same style of content. This helps to keep content creation enjoyable and never feeling like a job. Combining humor with his music is a common and well-received maneuver of Richard’s on platforms like TikTok where he is nearly approaching 70k followers and well over one million likes on his account to date.
For those that look up to Richard as a mentor, he is happy to provide an example of what can be accomplished if you are self-motivated and disciplined. When asked what advice he would give to those wanting to follow in his footsteps, Richard remarks: “It is going to take a lot of work to get your name out there and a thick skin. No matter how talented you are, you will hear the word ‘no’ more than you think. Then once you start hearing ‘yes’, you have to show up and do the work, especially when you are an independent artist.”
With the knowledge and experience Richard has built over the past decade, he has been able to evolve into an influencer that is passionate about positively inspiring others through his content. Richard has enjoyed the community he has grown to be a part of on TikTok and is excited to see what the future brings as he further explores all of the opportunities that the online world offers.
