AJ Hebert is a man of many layers — artist, motorcyclist, and storyteller. Raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, in the heart of Cajun Country, he has spent his life blending his love for movement with his passion for creating. Whether he’s speeding down the road on his motorcycle or meticulously crafting a portrait, his artistic expression is as bold and unfiltered as the life he leads.
An Artist from the Start
From the moment he picked up a pencil, AJ’s talent was undeniable. As a child, his first masterpiece wasn’t on a canvas but inside his mother’s Barbie doll box, where he sketched Mickey Mouse with such precision that it earned him admiration instead of scolding. His natural ability set him apart early on, and by the fourth grade, he was already capturing striking likenesses — most notably, his teacher during a math class. While his artwork briefly landed him in trouble, his talent was too remarkable to ignore. “Your son was supposed to be doing math, but look at this! It looks just like me. Congratulations,” his teacher told his parents.
AJ pursued an art degree in college, but he credits much of his skill to his own dedication and self-teaching. He admires legendary artists like John Singer Sargent and Norman Rockwell, known for their ability to bring characters to life. That same sense of realism and emotion is evident in AJ’s work, making each piece more than just an image — it’s a story.
Riding Between Two Worlds
Outside of art, AJ has lived an active and fearless life. He’s raced motocross, skateboarded, played football, and even took on rugby, always embracing the thrill of movement. That same adrenaline fuels his approach to painting. Every brushstroke carries a sense of energy, just like the open road.
Yet, despite his tough exterior, AJ’s work reveals something deeper. “I draw to feel normal; it’s the only thing that feels natural to me when I create. It’s a zen-like, meditative experience that makes all of life’s troubles fade away.”
His latest milestone — painting the Pelican for the Acadian Pelican Ball — marks an exciting new chapter. As 2025 approaches, AJ’s career is set to take off in new and unexpected ways, proving that true artistry isn’t just about skill — it’s about embracing who you are and daring to create without limits.
