April is International Black Women’s History Month! Also on April 28th, we celebrate Pay It Forward Day. Dr. Kameika Hinson has dedicated her time, services, and resources to paying it forward. Despite Dr. Kameika’s many roles as a Medical Laboratory Scientist and Grief Coach, the one role she’s always wanted to play was that of a mother. However, her motherhood dreams were halted when she was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). In 2017, Kameika became pregnant before losing her baby to a miscarriage. Although heartbroken, her calling from God to help others became clear. A highly driven woman who was born to break barriers, she proves that when powered by purpose, women are unstoppable.
Dr. Kameika is now the author of “I Lost My Baby and Now It’s Time to Find My Mind”. She is also the CEO of Grief Release Publishing Inc. She teaches women who have had pregnancy or infant loss how to properly grieve and heal through writing. Today she personifies what it means to ascend above adversity while inspiring others to do the same.
What would you like our readers to know about what your role entails as the CEO of Grief Release Publishing Inc.?
Kameika Hinson: As the CEO of Grief Release Publishing Inc., I teach men and women how to properly grieve and heal through writing. After we focus on the grieving and healing, we then would figure out how to put their manuscript together to show how they overcame their grief. I most definitely enjoy being able to coach a person through their grief but the added portion of helping someone to put their story out into the world is beyond words. I feel that this is a part of my purpose and my purpose is to help change the stigma that is centered around grief and mental health.
Please tell us about the overall message of your published book, “I Lost My Baby and Now It’s Time to Find My Mind”.
Kameika Hinson: The overall message of my book is to bring awareness to a topic that is so rarely discussed. So many women who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss, suffer in silence and I want to change that. I know that the root cause of people not wanting to talk about the things that they experience after such a loss is because of the mental health portion of it. People would rather suffer in silence for fear of being judged because of their mental health issues and this needs to change.
What have you learned about yourself since becoming an author and entrepreneur?
Kameika Hinson: I’ve learned that I possess the power to overcome any obstacles that I put my mind to. I have always been terrified of public speaking. I would self-sabotage my way out of several speaking opportunities, fearing that I would not be perfect. But I have learned that if I want to have a successful business, I’ve got to put myself out there and speak on other people’s platforms.
What inspired you to join Book Profits Clubs and how has your journey been so far?
Kameika Hinson: I actually wrote my book in Taurea’s 3 Day Book Camp and it came with a 30 day free access to Book Profits Club. After my 30 days were up, I didn’t join Book Profits Club. I had some time to think and I attended the Author Allstars Conference about 2 weeks later. Well, at the conference, I joined Book Profits Club Inner Circle, which is a much higher investment but I feel like that was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. I have seen exponential growth in my business and in my life. I’m more confident as a person and I thank God for making the decision to invest in myself.
What does the month of April look like for you?
Kameika Hinson: I will be doing a training for a mental health organization about the benefits of journaling. I will also be a keynote speaker at the Beyond the Book Conference on April 22nd. April is not necessarily a busy month for me but I am constantly looking for more speaking opportunities as well as growing my publishing business.
April 28th is Pay It Forward Day. In what ways have your paid your services and resources forward throughout your career?
Kameika Hinson: I have given away several copies of my books as well as free coaching sessions. I’ve learned that you never know what someone may be going through. I remember when there were many times that I just didn’t have the money to pay for certain things and I had help along the way. It brings me so much joy to be in a position now to be able to help other people along the way.
Any exclusive news you can share with us first?
Kameika Hinson: I am launching my very first collaboration book project. I’ve been wanting to do this for quite some time now but it is finally about to happen and I’m uber excited about it.
