Barbara Kaumeyer serves as the Deputy Finance Director of the Department of Community Health in Atlanta, Georgia. In this position, she participates in planning, preparing, and reviewing financial reports for the State Accounting Office. She ensures adherence with guidelines, policies, and standards related to accounting. Barbara Kaumeyer also manages the department’s effective internal control system, undertaking risk assessments and monitoring internal controls. She coordinates with the Financial Services Division to ensure that all procedures and processes are properly documented. She also oversees the State Health Benefit Plan and general ledger and bank reconciliations.
Between September 2022 and March 2023, Barbara Kaumeyer worked as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC) Financial Analyst with the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, also in Atlanta. In this position, she reported to the Deputy Chief Financial Officer and developed the CCBHC reimbursement rates, undertaking analyses of a wide range of factors, including claims, Medicaid cost reports, and financial statements.
Ms. Kaumeyer has provided financial services to governmental agencies throughout Georgia for nearly two decades. During this time, she has served as a Finance Manager with the Cobb County Water System in Marietta, an Internal Audit Manager with the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities in Atlanta, and a Senior Auditor II with the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts, also in Atlanta.
Barbara Kaumeyer prepared for her career by earning a bachelor of science in accounting from Jacksonville State University in Alabama in 2006. Her degree included a designation as a Certified Fraud Examiner and a Certified Government Auditing Professional. This was followed by CPA training at Keller University in 2009.
Concurrent to her time working for governmental agencies, Barbara Kaumeyer served as a seasonal Tax Preparer for H&R Block in Smyrna, Georgia. In this position, she provided tax services to both individuals and small businesses, with expertise ranging from international tax matters and education credits to childcare worksheets, child credits, housing foreclosures, and investment vehicles such as stocks, bonds, and IRAs.
Active in the accounting community, Barbara Kaumeyer volunteers her time to promoting education related to accounting and finance, which has included speaking to students at Centennial High School in Roswell, Georgia. She is also the Membership Chair of the Fiscal Management Council and is active with the Association of Governmental Accountants.
In her free time, Ms. Kaumeyer pursues a number of outdoor activities, including camping, hiking, riding bikes, and kayaking. She also enjoys roller skating.
