          Berman received his Juris Doctor degree at Chicago Kent College of Law (1979) and his B.A. at the University of Illinois (1976). Starting off as an assistant state’s attorney at Cook County State’s Attorney, Chicago, Illinois in 1980, Berman took hard work as a part of life and critical to growth, took risks and chances in life, and did everything for a reason. He holds professional licenses with the state bar of Illinois (1980), the state bar of California (1987), Federal District Court for Northern District of Illinois (1980) and Central District California (1988) as well as Federal District Court for Northern District of California (2001), and Southern District of California (2001).

          Besides being an excellent lawyer, Berman is also a published author and educator. Berman has written extensively on the subject of DUI law and defense. His work has been featured in many respected legal journals such as Los Angeles & San Francisco Daily Journal, Century City Lawyer, and Lawyers Mutual Insurance Co. Bulletin. He is also the author of several chapters, articles and a book on the subject, including California DUI Trial Notebook, Driving Under the Influence Cases, The Rules of the Internet, and Drunk Driving Defense and Malpractice.

          As a dedicated lawyer, Berman has had accomplished and achieved much while practicing his profession. He is a recipient of multiple awards such as Southern California Super Lawyer (Los Angeles Magazine, 2004), Best DUI Attorney (Los Angeles Daily News 2011 Readers Choice Awards), and Criminal Law Award of Excellence (Century City Bar Association 2001 – 2002). He has also volunteered as an arbitrator, secretary, treasurer, and president to the different organizations that he was affiliated with including Los Angeles County Bar Association and Century City Bar Association .
