This Black History Month, Wonder Project spotlights a curated lineup of courageous stories, led by Sarah’s Oil, an inspiring true story rooted in faith, perseverance, and family. Sarah’s Oil will premiere on Wonder Project’s subscription on Prime Video in the U.S. beginning February 11.
Sarah’s Oil tells the remarkable story of Sarah Rector, an African American girl born in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the early 1900s whose life is transformed when oil is discovered on the land allotted to her. As powerful oil speculators attempt to seize control of her inheritance, Sarah relies on her family, community, and trusted allies to protect what is rightfully hers — ultimately becoming one of the nation’s first African American female millionaires at just eleven years old.

Her story represents a rare and extraordinary chapter of American history that is only now reaching a wider audience. Most recently, Sarah’s Oil received nominations at the 2026 NAACP Image Awards, including Outstanding Motion Picture, with Naya Desir-Johnson nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Youth.
