Elite Connections was founded in Los Angeles in 1994 after Sherri met her husband through a matchmaker and saw a need for a safe, effective way for successful and commitment-minded singles to meet one another. Jules : You founded Elite Connections International over 28 years ago and have built it into one of the world’s premiere matchmaking agencies. Share your background.
Sherri: I was a single mother of two working in real estate in Southern California. My friends were dating using the personals ads and I thought they were all going to end up dead. I pictured personals full of serial murders and thought the same thing about online dating when it came out. I went out on a bad set up date and made a wish, “to meet someone nice and never date again.” The next day an elite matchmaker called me to join with her and I did a few days later. My future husband Bill was my second date. I started my own matchmaking company 2 months later and I’ve been helping people find love ever since
Jules: Most dating agencies out there are fly-by-night start-ups. How has Elite Connections set the stage for authentic connections?
Sherri: At first, I worked alone and slowly started adding reliable people that love the business to help me. Keri Roberts has been with me 25 years, my daughter Tammi Pickle 20 years, Eileen Fisher 8 years and Claudia Duran 6 years. We have a staff of hard-working assistant matchmakers and scouts that are serious about helping us find quality people to bring in to meet our clients. It’s easy to start any company and hard to find the right people to help you make it a success. That’s where I’ve been very lucky.

Jules: How has Elite Connections taken the mystery out of dating?
Sherri: Dating is a difficult process online. You have no idea who you are meeting. We meet each person we bring in face to face, check IDs and do background checks. You always see recent photos, and information on the person we would like you to meet. Of course, you can always decline, but it’s best to keep an open mind and meet someone that might be a bit different than you usually would go out with.
Jules: You are known for matchmaking not just the “who’s who” of Hollywood, but also the bachelor and bachelorette next door. What does a perfect match look like?
Sherri: Sometimes it’s as simple as two Jewish singles, which have great families are attractive and looking for that special person they can take home to meet their family. Sometimes it’s a celebrity that’s tired of dating other stars and finding them that attractive, together person that knows nothing about the craziness of Hollywood. Someone that can give them a private and normal life outside of their profession. Many times, people have things in common that make they attracted to each other. They share the same passion for a sport, music, or theater. Maybe they both love to travel, hike or ride bikes. It’s not as fun to be with someone that does everything you do but nice if you have a couple things in common. You can always introduce each other to the things you like to do.
Jules: It is Elite Connections “28th Anniversary.” Tell us about the success and what you have learned along the journey.
Sherri: Hard work eventually pays off if you love what you do. I’m sure I could have made more money at another venture but working with my daughter is priceless. I understand when they have a family emergency and life is not all about working. But they know I expect them to work hard and get the job done.
So, work hard, never give up and remember life is a roller coaster. It’s up and down and never going to be perfect. Enjoy the ride.
Jules: Take us through the process of working with you.
Sherri: First we talk on the phone and send you a form to fill out. Based on this information we can see if you are someone we could work with. Then we set up a Zoom or in person meeting. We check your ID and send you a contract. We go over it with you and make changes. We have to approve your photos. Then within about a week we will send you your first match. Your membership begins when the first match is made.
Jules: What is your biggest satisfaction?
Sherri: Hearing that a couple has fallen in love or moved in together. Of course, going to weddings is number one!
