An entrepreneurial business leader in Dallas, Texas, Matt Valentine has a diverse professional background that includes establishing and growing large companies in many different industries. He credits his ability to oversee strategic negotiations and build effective teams as two qualities that have helped him to advance in his career. Matt Valentine embarked on his career in the financial field, working with top service providers such as Raymond James and Merrill Lynch. He also founded and led Millbrook Equity Partners. 

Subsequently, Matt Valentine transitioned into the oil and gas sectors. He has been a partner with the petroleum industry carbon removal company Carbon Rho since 2022 and the midstream energy company Rimrock Energy Partners since 2015. He has also sat on the advisory board of Orion Energy Partners since 2015. From 2012 to 2016, he served as the chief financial officer of Rimrock Midstream. Over the years, Mr. Valentine has garnered considerable administrative expertise in the extraction, processing, transport, and storage of raw natural resources.

Beyond his extensive business activities in the oil and gas sector, Matt Valentine has expanded into the apparel and athletic sectors. He became a board member of the women’s clothing label BuddyLove in 2019 and the founding chairman of the men’s professional soccer franchise United Soccer League (USL) Dallas in 2024. He is currently developing the USL Dallas program, as well as a home stadium complex in the Dallas suburb of Garland. Beyond the professional USL Dallas team, he is creating an affiliated youth academy with its own competitive team. If all goes according to plan, the first USL Dallas soccer matches will occur in 2027. Looking even farther into the future, Mr. Valentine wants to see the World Cup come to the Dallas area. 

Matt Valentine played varsity soccer while working toward his undergraduate degree in economics at Washington University in St. Louis in the mid-1990s. Today, he likes to start every day with an early morning workout. He also stays physically active by golfing and snow skiing. When he isn’t participating in sports, he follows them on television as a fan. 

A dedicated father, Matt Valentine describes his children as his greatest joy. His favorite pastimes include traveling and enjoying fine wine. Beyond his deep commitment to youth soccer, he actively supports youth baseball. Many of Matt Valentine’s activities in professional and youth sports involve instilling a sense of community among the residents of Dallas/Ft. Worth. He also advocates for this community through charitable endeavors that serve the local unhoused population. In recognition of these endeavors, the Dallas Foundation honored Mr. Valentine with a place on its “Good Works Under 40 “list.

What personal circumstance has had the greatest influence on your life? 

Going to Washington University and playing soccer.  

What is one piece of advice you can give to drive business success?

Be a lifelong learner. Read and be interested in things you don’t understand.

What is one habit that helps you be productive?

Waking up early. I tend to have my best results and feel like my most productive self when I maintain that discipline.

The efficiency of AI and its potential to cure disease and advance science.  

What mega-trend most concerns you? 

Use of AI to cheat and steal. If it makes you lazy, you’re probably not using it right.
