More than ever, the entertainment industry pushes for women creators to be highlighted in a male-dominated industry. It is our distinct pleasure to introduce our readers to Award-winning Producer, Director, and Actress, Maria Soccor.

As a producer and director on her acclaimed documentary feature film, Lords of BSV, has won 13 awards across the world. Maria has thrived these past few years, despite the pandemic. She is the writer and director of “Tillie” and “Freestyle Music: The Legacy”.

In addition to excelling behind the camera, this multi-faceted entertainer starred in the New Jersey production of Mannequin Diaries directed by Trazana Beverley, who won the Best Featured Actress Tony Award in the original Broadway production of Ntozake Shange’s iconic play, For Colored Who Have Considered Suicide/When The Rainbow Is Enuf.

As she directed Freestyle Music: The Legacy, Maria was also simultaneously serving as an executive producer with Emmy award-winning executive producer Dan Braun, and Emmy award-winning director Sylvia Caminer, on 2 B Me, a feature documentary exploring identity. Currently, she is directing and co-writing the documentary, Sybil In Her Own Words with the New York Times Best Selling Author, Dr. Patrick Suraci.

As an actress, she is best known for sharing the screen with a host of celebrities on major network hit TV series. She joined the cast of the TV crime drama, Vengeance: Bronx SIU, as Mayor Molina for the second season on the Urban Movie Channel (UMC) owned by Robert Johnson, the founder of BET. Maria also shot the true-life romantic film Fairytale of New York in Dublin, Ireland starring Jim Belushi, and appears in the 2020 screwball comedy, Nick and Nicky, featuring Sean Young from Blade Runner.

More of her acting credits include Playmakers of New Orleans starring Zoe Saldana and Boris Kodjoe in which she played Saldana’s sister, and Jersey Justice starring Emmy award winner Blanche Baker. She has also appeared in films starring Matt Damon, Edward Norton, John Turturro, John Malkovich, Famke Janssen and Martin Landau (Rounders), Queen Latifah and Danny Glover (The Cookout), Danny Aiello and Joe Piscopo (The Last Request), and John Leguizamo (Undefeated on HBO).

Also, NCIS New Orleans, Cosby, the recurring role of Caroline Diaz on the NBC series Another World, and Laurencia Leon in K-Ville on Fox starring Anthony Anderson and Cole Hauser, as well as appearances on ABC, CBS, PBS, and Lifetime channel.

Maria is a member of the Board of Directors of Dress for Success, Northern New Jersey Chapter; and a board member of Educate The Block, a career training program in Hudson County, New Jersey. A member of New York Women In Film and Television, the Poetry Society of America, and is an accomplished poet and poetry teacher. Truly passionate and dedicated to the arts, she also serves on the Theater/Arts, Photography, and Film Committees at New York’s prestigious National Arts Club. Her awards include New Jersey Essex County Young Woman of The Year, Miss New York, and Ms. National USA.

She is active in her community as a volunteer at a local women’s battered shelter in Newark, New Jersey, as well as actively participating in Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, and numerous charity events.
