What inspired you to pursue a career in dentistry?

My inspiration to enter dentistry stems from personal experiences with dental trauma during my childhood. These experiences drove me to help others overcome similar challenges with compassion and understanding. I have always been fascinated by the impact a healthy smile can have on a person’s confidence and well-being, and dentistry allows me to play a part in this transformation.

How do you stay updated with the latest advancements and technologies in dentistry?

Staying updated in the rapidly evolving field of dentistry is crucial. I consistently participate in Continuing Education (CE) courses which cover the latest dental practices and technologies. These courses allow me to integrate cutting-edge solutions into my practice, ensuring that my patients receive the best care possible.

What are the most important habits people should develop to maintain good oral health?

The foundation of good oral health lies in simple yet consistent habits. Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily, and visiting the dentist regularly can make a significant difference. Additionally, a balanced diet and limiting sugary snacks help maintain strong teeth and gums.

What are the most common misconceptions about oral hygiene that you encounter among patients?

One of the most common misconceptions is that brushing alone is sufficient for oral hygiene. While brushing is essential, it doesn’t reach the spaces between the teeth where plaque can build up. That’s why flossing is equally important and often overlooked by many.

Do you have any tips for maintaining healthy teeth and gums at home?

Absolutely. Aside from regular brushing and flossing, using an antimicrobial mouthwash can help reduce bacteria in your mouth. It’s also important to replace your toothbrush every three to four months or sooner if the bristles become frayed. Hydration is key too, as a dry mouth can increase the risk of decay.

How can parents encourage their children to develop good oral hygiene habits from a young age?

Parents can encourage good habits by making oral care fun for their children. Using toothbrushes with favorite cartoon characters, setting a timer with a fun song for brushing, and involving them in choosing their toothpaste can create a positive association with oral hygiene. Leading by example is also powerful; when children see their parents prioritizing their dental health, they’re more likely to follow suit.
