Dr. Gautam Arora is a neurologist and pain management specialist who has been serving patients in the United States and India for over 10 years.

He is currently running his own clinics – GNG Medical Supplies in the U.S. and Neurology and Pain Management Clinic (NPMC) in Delhi, India. Through the two clinics, he offers diagnostic tests including NCV, EEG, and EMG. Aside from that, they also offer general neurology services and provide medical intervention for patients with Epilepsy, memory disorders, movement disorders, neuromuscular disease, and more.

Dr. Gautam built NPMC as one way to give back to his community as he grew up and started pursuing medicine way back when he was still in Delhi, India. Now, to reach out to those who are having difficulties accessing medical care due to the pandemic, he decided to develop a neuro and pain clinic, a telehealth website that will be made available to patients across India.

Even before the pandemic, we’ve seen the rise of telemedicine alongside the advancement of technology. But with more than one billion people affected by the pandemic, telemedicine has become even more crucial especially for those living in remote areas and places that are hit hardest by the pandemic. Seeing how much COVID-19 has been affecting his community in India, Dr. Gautam Arora took advantage of this growing trend in telemedicine to continue serving people. As a neurologist and pain management specialist, he was aiming to build something that will assure the uninterrupted delivery of healthcare services. He desires to provide patients better access to medical practitioners and services – either diagnostic tests or any general procedures required by his clinic. As a result, Dr. Gautam built a telehealth website called neuro and pain clinic where he now connects with his current and potential patients across India, most especially those who are living in far-flung communities or who can’t afford medical care anymore because of the pandemic. With online consultations, patients can get the diagnostic tests and other services they need without really requiring them to go all the way to NPMC. Furthermore, knowing that this initiative to start offering medical services through websites can help a lot more people around the globe, Dr. Gautam shares five of the greatest benefits of telemedicine. First, according to Dr. Gautam, telemedicine is a great method for patients to get medical care even during a pandemic. While going out of the house and walking on the streets can be dangerous, especially because of the pandemic, telemedicine allows people to do this from their own homes or wherever they are most comfortable. Patients don’t have to step outside their homes or see a specialist in a faraway clinic just to have tests done. Instead, they can just book an appointment with the dedicated team on the clinic’s website and the health professionals and other staff will do everything for them. From scheduling online appointments to calling patients back, the staff is to make things easier for patients who can’t leave their homes. Moreover, Dr. Gautam says that telemedicine is a good solution for those whose physicians are not available anymore. Whether because of an inability to travel or a lack of necessary services and diagnostic tests in their area, telemedicine allows people to still see a doctor even if they are living in less accessible areas. Third, Dr. Gautam says that telemedicine allows for greater access to healthcare services. Given the high cost of medical care during a pandemic, many people are not able to see doctors anymore because they don’t have enough money or insurance coverage. Through telemedicine, however, more people can have access to healthcare services despite having a limited amount of money at their disposal. Fourth, telemedicine is good for doctors who don’t get reimbursed by insurance companies because of the pandemic lockdown. This means that they can still earn from their profession even if they do not get paid by insurance companies anymore due to the lockdown. Lastly, Dr. Gautam thinks that telemedicine is more convenient for patients who can’t get their medicine anymore due to the pandemic lockdown. If they are not able to go to the nearest pharmacy and buy some over-the-counter drugs, telemedicine will allow them to consult with their doctor through this online platform. Because of his passion for healthcare and dedication to serving patients, he says that he is more than willing to do anything to make sure that they continue receiving the medical services they need without any problem.
