Matilda Dahlin is garnering up her drive and determination to take on the fashion world to reach her ultimate potential. From model to teacher, to aspiring actress, Matilda has the foundation and experience to make her mark as “America’s Next Sensation.”
Matilda was born in a small town south of Stockholm, Sweden in 1991, and from the moment she was born, fashion was always an integral part of her life. With a grandmother and great-grandmother as fashion designers, it’s no surprise Matilda quickly gained an interest in this industry and dreamt of immersing herself in it. “It’s just something that has always been in my blood, my mom would always dress me in nice clothes and dresses that my grandma would sew for me,” Matilda recalls. When she was around the age of 12, her family moved out to the US and established ground in Santa Barbara. It was then that her journey towards becoming a model began to gain traction.
While modeling soon became Matilda’s focus, her modeling career began with a local beauty pageant her senior year of high school. After realizing she wanted to step away from pageants and focus on modeling,
Matilda used the strong connections she had gained with fashion photographers and along with the help of her mom who was also a photographer, she began to build up her portfolio. Since then, Matilda has done a variety of amazing things from walking the runway for L.A. fashion week, being featured in a car commercial for Dodge Automotive, as well as being featured in a music video with The Game, Lil Wayne, Jeremih, and Fabulous for their new single “All That Lady.” She was also highlighted in a second music video for Chris Brown ft E-40. “Episode.”
Fashion has always been an integral part of your life. How did it lead you to model?
Fashion has always been an important part of my life as my great grandmother and grandmother were both fashion designers, and my mom also being a photographer. I have always felt that fashion has been in my blood from the beginning as my mom would dress me in nice clothes even in kindergarten. From being in a beauty pageant in high school, I knew I wanted to be a professional model and pursue it. That then led to me walking the runway for fashion week and doing multiple photoshoots with fashion photographers for magazines and brands.
Recently, Matilda has been working with fashion photographers for magazine editorials as well as shooting for clothing lines and campaigns for brand new collections. She has been featured in magazines such as Fashion Faces Magazine, Vogue Italia, CIE Fashion Magazine, Wedding Ideas, and as of late has been featured in L’Officiel India and FHM India. With a dream to one day be the face of designer brands such as GUESS, Matilda is surely working her way towards it.
What does it take to be successful in the industry?
I definitely feel like you have to have thick skin to make it in this industry. Not to mention determination and a set goal in mind. People will try to take advantage of you and scam you. I have been a victim of several con artists throughout my career that claims to help you but will actually have their own agenda and end up hurting you financially and mentally. I always try to give advice to new models in the industry; if you feel like something is too good to be true, it probably is. When that happens, walk away immediately and save yourself a lot of pain.
Tell us about some of the highlights of your career.
I have been fortunate to grace the covers of several magazines such as FHM and One West magazine as well as being featured in L’OFFICIEL, Vogue ITALIA, FHM Sweden, Wedding Ideas, Fashion Faces, GMARO magazine among others. I have also been featured on major billboards across Las Vegas for a local luxury brand that was showcased this past year. In addition, doing photo shoots for clothing brands and partnering with a fragrance company as well as being an influencer on social media.
What do you look for in a project?
I love being a role model for other young girls or models that are starting out in the industry. I also want to encourage mothers as well as other model moms to keep working towards their goals and dreams. To keep in shape or be proud of their bodies. I love any project that can help build others up and encourage power, beauty, and self-love.
Are you working on any collaborations for 2022?
Right now, I’m working on collaborating with fashion photographers for magazine covers and features as well as shoots for brands.
Share your upcoming goals/projects.
I have always dreamed of being a Guess Girl and I am working hard to achieve that dream as we speak. I love what Guess stands for, a classy yet sexy and empowering brand for women, as well as for men. I’m also working on becoming a model for other major brands such as Fashion Nova, Pretty Little Thing, and House of CB.
