How has 2022 been for your company PeachSkinSheets?
An impressive 2021 Q4 has followed us into 2022, providing a position of strength thanks to an incredible team of people. In the personal arena I believe that you are a reflection of the 5 people you spend the most time with, and the same applies to your company. If you build and surround your company with smart, passionate people in the correct roles who know how to make things happen, great things are bound to happen!
How has your background shaped your vision for the future?
I had been in corporate America and was laid off at age 48 and had to create another opportunity for myself. My years of experience in business led me to the conclusion that whichever product I selected to sell, it needed to be an eCommerce model, a consumable item that must be replaced, and easy to ship. I love fabrics, design and color, so bed sheets were a perfect match. Through my own personal search for high quality sheets that aren’t overpriced I realized that they are a want and a necessity, as it’s impossible to find great sheets for under $200. I wanted to supply something that was easy to buy, affordable, yet still luxurious.
What is needed to succeed as a woman founder?
Independence, self-worth, financial freedom, recognition, creating a legacy for your children and grandchildren, making a positive impact on the world by solving a problem, and empowering other women are all factors that make up a great female founder.
Many women struggle from low self confidence and have trouble believing in themselves. Inner strength is critical, so believing in yourself and the product or service you’re providing is detrimental. Positive influences are also important, and you really are the sum of the people you surround yourself with. My biggest piece of advice is to choose to surround yourself with others who believe in your vision and build you up, and this goes for any entrepreneur!
Who inspires you?
The people that inspire me most are my family and those that work with me. The most inspirational part of our business is helping our employees grow, and this pertains to several different areas. Having the security of a paycheck for themselves and their families, developing relationships with other co-workers, learning new skills and testing their limits, working in a fun, challenging yet warm environment. All of those factors contribute to growth. Single moms are a particular soft spot for me because I have been there…. flexibility and financial security are 2 critical factors that we can provide. I believe that if you have a happy team, you’ll have a solid team that believes in the company. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them and their success is always top of mind.
My husband has always been my biggest cheerleader and has helped me build PeachSkinSheets. He is a financial and operations expert, and we have different strengths (I am the creative one), so his business savvy created a strong foundation for our company. I admire him and his willingness to stay up late with me, analyzing swatches or discussing my business plan. PeachSkinSheets is definitely a labor of love and I’m grateful that we have built it together.
What are the greatest misnomers of running a successful business?
Among the many myths out there, the one I disagree with most is that founders don’t have time for a personal life or family balance. It’s important to create a structured schedule to help you stay on task, hire the right people and learn how to delegate. As a founder, one of the first things I learned is that you don’t have to do everything yourself. Invest in training others and hiring people you trust to lead their own aspects of the business, so that you can live your life.
What is new for PeachSkinSheets in 2022?
We are SO excited about our planned growth in 2022! Additional palettes of colors, sales channels, product extensions, product enhancements and exciting new promotions that are designed to give even more to our customers. They love PeachSkinSheets today, and will love us even more tomorrow!
