What led you to launch Ignite Publishing™?

Ignite came to me in an Ignite moment. I was sitting at a conference while a speaker was up on stage telling a personal and emotional story. As I witnessed their vulnerable sharing, I realized the fundamental and significant need everyone has to be seen, feel heard, and belong. Speaker after speaker came up on stage, and as they expressed their life-changing moments, I saw how those moments did not define them but refined them, catapulting them in a new and more amazing direction.

I also noticed how there was a single powerful moment that put them on a new trajectory in their life and ignited a path toward something greater, ultimately a greater version of themselves. When each speaker was done, the crowd stood up and applauded. Many received hugs when coming off of the stage. Telling their most intimate moments of heartache and sorrow didn’t repel the audience; it brought them closer and formed a new level of authentic connection. I instantly saw how important it was to tell your story, share your truth, and do it in a way that allowed you to express how it made you a better person. Those became Ignite Moments™, and I knew they could heal hearts and inspire lives.

Seeing the power of not just having stories, but sharing stories, of creating community through storytelling, led me to launch Ignite Publishing™, the home for empowering stories that Ignite the world.

Forbes Magazine has called you an innovative entrepreneur and “heart-centered publisher.” Tell us about your approach to publishing.

My approach to publishing has always been to tell stories that empower, uplift, and transform not just the readers but also the authors who tell their stories. Empowerment publishing is about community; it’s about sharing the words and wisdom people need to hear to change their lives. Storytelling at Ignite is a heart-to-heart sharing between our authors and our readers. It’s a heart-to-heart process between our authors and us. We show them how to have confidence in their story, and we take them through the publication process in a way that illuminates their story, purpose, experience, and message. These are the stories that people need to tell and need to read. This is why we publish true stories of Ignite Moments™, those moments of transformation in someone’s life. It connects us all on a deeper, heart-centered level, allowing us to express our true selves and find the blessing in our journey.

You were knighted by The Royal Order of Constantine the Great and Saint Helen as Lady JB Owen for her entrepreneurial and philanthropic endeavors. What does this mean to you?

It’s an incredible honor to be knighted. It is so much more than just the title of Lady for me. It’s recognition that my work to uplift, heal, unite, and inspire the world is making a difference. I believe the stories we share have the power to change our lives and lead us toward something better. Now more than ever, we need to come together and raise the level of consciousness around the globe to create a better future for the generations to come. We need to build connections and accentuate our commonalities, not our differences. There is only one thing we all have in common: we each have a story. I believe sharing our authentic stories will heal humanity and end the war, racism, and segregation. It will create more camaraderie, compassion, and caring for one another. As Lady JB, I feel compelled more than ever to ensure every person on the planet is recognized and valued for their unique story. I believe Ignite Moments can unite us in a way we have never felt before.

Tell us about the Ignite Moment™?

We all have an Ignite Moment (or even multiple Ignite Moments) that marks an instance of complete change and transformation in our lives. Many people go through difficult times in their lives. Often an Ignite Moment can be challenging, difficult, and even take us to our knees. However, they do not break us. Instead, they become a moment of awakening, realization, a light at the end of the tunnel, knowledge gained, and a perspective shifted to allow us to step into who we truly are. It is not about how we fall but how we get back up. It is how we decided to be the hero in our story, not the victim. These are the stories we tell at Ignite, the moments we celebrate where our authors find their power and Ignite their lives.

Where does your deepest enjoyment come from?

I love watching the eyes of people light up when they discover themselves. It is exhilarating to see when another individual begins to recognize their magnificence and develops an awareness of how incredible they are. Many of us have been told something that has kept us down or afraid to go after our dreams. Through my legacy of mentoring, publishing, and brand development, I get to witness the unfolding of a person reaching their potential and building something that is designed to uplift someone else. I love to help pave the way for those who want to make a difference on the planet and support them in obtaining their dreams. My most profound joy comes from supporting people in having a goal and then reaching it, only to empower them to reach for another, building their goals around those things that will benefit others and raise the vibration of humanity.

From on-stage or in print your message is one of taking action to Ignite Possibilities™, Ignite Legacy™, and Ignite Humanity™. Tell us more.

I believe we should all live in the center of what is possible. Possibilities are available to everyone, and anything and everything IS possible. We need to be teaching possibilities to our children and instilling in every person on the planet that what they dream of and desire is possible for them. We need to end ambition shaming, where people are held back and condemned for wanting to go after their aspirations. We need to be thinking about what is possible so that we can end prejudices, reduce world hunger, save the polar ice caps, stop global warming, and solve many of the issues that affect us on a global scale. When we think about doing those kinds of things, we step into legacy and what is beyond us, our generation, and our community; we think on a scale much bigger than just ourselves. We awaken to a bigger ideology than just one person’s success, but the needs and successes of millions and billions of people. If all entrepreneurs were thinking about legacy in their businesses, we would build sustainable solutions for centuries. If all parents were talking about legacy and teachers were teaching how legacy supports generations to come, we would all be living in a way that supports all of humanity. We each need to care about the trajectory of humanity and ask ourselves how our role plays a part. I believe that when you make things possible and live in the creation of possibilities, you strive to build a legacy for yourself and others. In doing that, you add valuable contributions to the betterment of all humanity.

Share the proudest moment of your career.

I have had many proud moments in my career, from my very first business at the age of nine, to my global children’s clothing company, to working with Oscar-winning directors and actors, to being featured in Forbes, published 21 times, nominated for awards, and receiving the title of Lady by being knighted by the Royal Order. Each one of those moments as part of a daisy chain of events and a chess board of maneuvers to bring me to where I am today. I couldn’t be here without falling, losing it all, starting over, and pushing myself to get up every day at 4:30 am. I am most proud when I look back at the many things I have done that led to the next accomplishment and the endless effort and tenacity it took to reach where I am today. I believe you must keep trying, keep getting up, pushing through, dreaming, exploring, and seeing every opportunity as a blessing; however it is delivered. I feel my proudest moments are yet to come. I want to be at each one of my children’s 50th birthday parties. Seeing them as adults, parents, spouses, and business owners, doing something wonderful for humanity and living in the center of what is possible for them will be my proudest moments.

What is the secret to publishing success?

The secret to being the leader in empowerment publishing is in the endless desire to uplift and elevate the client and the author. We don’t put words on a page, pages in a book, and books on a shelf; we transform and touch the heart of the author and the reader. Our goal is to make a life-changing impact on everyone we touch. From our team to our authors, to our readers, to those in the lives of the reader, we work endlessly to instill connection, awaken ideas, inspire action, and evoke emotions. We want to create a 360-degree experience and have people be fundamentally changed by reading our books. From there, we want people to be empowered to make a massive change on a global scale. Our success lies in the success of our clients. Having that as a company goal makes it easy to be the best in the business because our business is about people and Igniting their lives.
