Anyone who has paid attention to the world of auto manufacturing recently has likely seen that the digital world is expanding quickly. In the past, people had to control just about everything from the steering wheel to the clutch and the brakes. Now, there are cars that can park themselves, and the idea of self-driving cars is becoming more of a reality. Dennis Haggerty understands that this is a world that is evolving quickly, and the digital connection between cars and humans is only becoming more powerful. How might the digital connection between cars and humans change moving forward?

The Rise of Self-Driving Cars

When people think about the digital connection between cars and humans, Dennis W. Haggerty Jr. knows that people do not need to look any further than self-driving cars. The reality is that the digital connection between cars and humans has to be strong for a self-driving car to get someone to the right location. Furthermore, the car has to get them there safely, so the car has to be able to interpret traffic patterns, spot other cars on the road, and keep the vehicle under control. Humans are responsible for creating this technology, and they will be responsible for guiding the car during the early phases of self-driving vehicles.

Voice Commands To Control Vehicles

In the future, Dennis Haggerty believes that people might also be able to control their vehicles using their voices. For example, they might be able to change the destination by simply speaking a command to the vehicle. Or, they might be able to use their voice to tell the vehicle to speed up or slow down. Already, people can use their voices to call somebody while driving. That way, they don’t have to worry about dialing a phone number. It is easy to see how someone might be able to use their voice to control other aspects of the vehicle as well.

Gestures Could Be Used as Well

It is also possible that people could use gestures to control the vehicle. For example, Dennis W. Haggerty Jr. thinks that people might be able to use hand gestures to tell the car what to do. Many people have played virtual reality video games. They use their arms and legs to complete certain tasks. People might be able to make certain gestures with their hands to tell the car what to do as well. This could be another extension of digital technology, connecting cars and humans.

Other Possibilities Down the Line

These are relatively basic jumps that people already experience in other areas of their lives. Now, Dennis Haggerty believes that there are other possibilities as well. Some people have seen movies where people use their brains to control boats, planes, and cars. Even though this technology isn’t that far off, there could be a world where people could connect their brains to the car and use their brain waves to control the vehicle. This might sound like a science fiction movie now, but self-driving cars probably sounded the same way in the past.
