The Texas Coalition of Black Democrats, led by Dr. Candice Matthews, consistently pushes for changes in the local community that will benefit everyone, particularly minority communities and the underserved. Dr. Matthews is joined by other Civil Rights leaders, such as Robert Williams, Chas Moore, Precious West, Eugene Howard, Willie Crumpton, and Quincy Dunlap, all of whom will speak on the Texas Department of Health and Human Services forging government and state records and their retaliatory practices against those providers. The event takes place at the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, 701 W 51st St., Austin, TX at 10:30 AM CST on Thursday, October 27th, where the leadership group will release documentation of how the Texas Department of Health and Human Services has fallen short.
Corruption Leading To Negative Impacts on Children
According to the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats, and numerous Civil Rights organizations and activists in Texas, the Texas Department of Health and Human Services has been derelict in its duty to serve and protect underserved children in the state. Due to continuous patterns in practice, there are too many children who have not been placed in suitable environments. Often, they are living in motels, where it is difficult for them to socialize, do their schoolwork, and thrive in a safe and supportive environment. Even worse, some children could also be found sleeping in cars, as overworked social workers do not know where to place these children in the evening. Dr. Candice Matthews and the leadership team will discuss how the Texas Department of Health and Human Services has failed to serve the needs of our most vulnerable children.
Other Consequences Are Being Felt Across the State
Furthermore, the event will highlight a wide range of additional issues that have to be addressed. Many children in the care of the Texas Department of Health and Human Services do not have access to basic, necessary services. Children in the care of the department are also at an increased risk of suffering from human trafficking. It should also come as no surprise that children in the care of the department have a higher risk of suffering injuries, illnesses, or death. Evidence of this corruption will be highlighted at the media event.
Documentation and Evidence Will Be Made Available to the Media
The Texas Coalition of Black Democrats does not make these accusations lightly, and the organization will make documentation and evidence available to the media. Dr. Matthews and the rest of the Civil Rights organizations in the state simply want the Texas Department of Health and Human Services to step up, fight for children in need and provide them with safe, supportive homes in which they can not only survive but also thrive. By making evidence of the negligence and forged records public, the entire state can push the Texas Department of Health and Human Services to put the needs of children first.
