How have you optimized your daily routine to enhance productivity, and what key activities do you prioritize?

In any profession that involves managing multiple partners and collaborators, the ability to multitask while maintaining priorities is an essential skill. Every day brings a new set of challenges – from navigating different personalities to juggling a variety of tasks and responsibilities. Staying organized and thinking ahead is crucial to maintaining productivity and delivering results. By planning out schedules and objectives weeks, months and even years ahead of time, I’m able to enter each day with a clear understanding of what tasks are most important and how to prioritize my workload. It’s this laser focus over time on objectives and priorities that allows me to meet the needs of all my partners and collaborators, while keeping everyone happy and moving all projects forward toward success.

Could you share a specific instance where applying a particular strategy played a significant role in your professional growth or business development?

In any industry, being open-minded and willing to listen to others is crucial to building a successful career. I make a point to give my time and attention to everyone around me, even if they are not immediate connections or related to current projects. Taking the time to truly listen to others can often lead to unexpected collaborations and fruitful relationships. I prioritize giving others my undivided attention, whether it’s through scheduled meetings or impromptu conversations, which has consistently helped me expand my network and create exciting new ventures. This may seem like a small gesture, but actively listening can make all the difference in building meaningful professional connections and enterprises.

Reflecting on a setback you encountered in your career, what steps did you take to navigate through it, and how have those experiences shaped your approach since then?

As a seasoned entrepreneur, I respect that failure and success are two sides of the same coin. But it was a difficult lesson that I learned firsthand when in my younger years, one of the most successful films ever created came across my desk, and I passed on the project, thinking I had too many other projects going on at that moment in time, failing to see the immense potential that it carried. However, I quickly realized how wrong I was as the movie went on to become a massive success, a true watershed moment for many in the industry. This experience taught me that making researched decisions and taking the long view is crucial, even when the outcome may seem uncertain.

Which personal routine or ritual do you credit for consistently boosting your productivity and helping you accomplish tasks efficiently?

Managing complex, long-term projects across various forms of media comes with its own set of challenges. As someone who deals with this on a regular basis, I have found that beginning every week and day with intelligent scheduling and planning are vital for staying productive. With multiple ongoing projects, it’s essential to set realistic goals and take the time to plan out every step of the process. By doing so, I am able to remain organized and focused, even when working on tasks that can take years to complete. Consistently chipping away at large projects with purpose allows me to make progress with long term confidence and ease – something that is essential to achieving success in this field.

Considering the dynamic nature of the entertainment industry, could you pinpoint a recent trend that has captured your interest and explain why it intrigues you?

In recent years, there has been a noticeable shift in the entertainment industry towards promoting diversity and inclusion. From featuring more women and POC, to featuring a wider range of storylines and perspectives, this trend is a reflection of the growing social awareness and responsibility of the industry. By embracing diversity, studios and production companies are not only doing the right thing, but also making a financially sensible decision. Audiences are increasingly demanding content that reflects diverse communities and experiences, and it’s heartening to see the industry responding to this demand. This not only reduces the alienation felt by certain audiences, but also opens the doors to more interesting stories and perspectives, often resulting in better returns as well.

In the realm of personal development, can you pinpoint a book, course, or learning experience that significantly influenced your journey? What key insights did you gain?

Although everyone’s path is different, graduate school at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts was a significant influence in my journey. You certainly don’t need grad school to become a filmmaker, but for some people it can make a lot of sense and be a way to not only learn about how the industry works, but also decide what aspect you really want to pursue. For example, I started my MFA program thinking I wanted to be a director, and through the school’s multi-faceted approach to education in the field, learned I actually really loved producing more – this specialization was just natural to me, and simply felt right. This diverse educational foundation in various roles in the entertainment industry continues to help me to this very day, allowing me to have an intrinsic knowledge of the roles, details, and specializations within every project I produce.

As technology continues to evolve, what emerging trend within your industry do you believe has the potential to revolutionize the way things are done, and how are you preparing for it?

Virtual Production is an amazing technology and one I believe already has, and will continue to revolutionize the industry. Although initially developed for high budget productions, the technology is rapidly evolving and the cost of use is quickly adapting. As someone who also understands interactive technology and how to integrate it with more classic aspects of the filmic medium, the utility of real time 3D engines to create in camera scenes and sets otherwise not possible without extensive post could become a game changer, especially as asset libraries become more adapted for this use. We’re already pushing for the intelligent use of this technology in making more complex world building projects more efficient and developing certain properties with this technology in mind.
