Hello Shamika, what’s new at Grace Avail At Home, LLC?

Shamika: The Mobile Foot Care Clinic is a newly added additional service that I provide. This is a clinic that has a foot care provider known as a nurse LPN or RN that is trained to provide routine foot care services. The services include but are not limited to Nail Trimming, Nail Filing, Reducing Thick Nails, Calluses and Corns Reduction, and Callus Removal.

Why has this service been recently added?

Shamika: As a member of the American Foot Care Nurse Association I understand that as the senior population age, they begin to lose mobility and have a decrease in self-care. This is a much-needed service like Home Care Services. Most of the aging population needs a service called “Routine Foot Care” meaning general services for their feet examples are nail trimming, callus removal, and possible referrals to a higher level of care such as podiatry. Our seniors and disabled adults are more susceptible to infections and wounds.

Please tell us about your podcast, how it came about, and what kind of guests join your conversations.

Shamika: CHIME in With Shamika is a podcast focused on the healthcare community. We discuss important subjects in areas for nurses for example What are the pros and cons of Travel Nursing since the coronavirus?

I also wanted the podcast to be geared toward subjects the aging population and disabled adults can relate to or be informed about. The goal of this was so the apartment complexes I’m embedded in have a podcast to listen to daily where they can be informed about their health.

Some topics we discussed are:

  • Alzheimer’s and Dementia the Signs
  • Are Millennials Overtake Baby Boomers?
  • Aging in Place — Growing Old at Home
  • Why do we see a Home Care Shortage?
  • Nurses in Business- The Process
  • Is Adult Daycare and Options for Your Loved Ones?

Many of the conversations are with co-workers or nurses across the world discussing these particular topics.

As a sought-after speaker, what are some topics that are vital for you to speak to audiences about?

Shamika: As a Sought after speaker some topics I discuss are:

Enlarge Your Horizon — Basically, you are expressing being more than you think. It’s okay to step out of the box sometimes. It’s okay to think differently.

The Audacity to Validate– It’s okay to validate yourself. You don’t need everyone else’s permission to be you. Why are we waiting and looking for everyone else’s approval? It’s not necessary.

Healthcare at its Finest — Learning to think outside of the box business wise and innovating your healthcare company. Bring your own spin on things and do this by not mimicking other companies.

What have been some challenges you’ve faced throughout your career? How did you overcome those moments?

Shamika: As a healthcare professional, I faced changes in the healthcare industry with business structure changes due to the coronavirus affecting wages, employment decrease, poor work ethics, and healthcare leadership taking a spiral due to that lack of proper screening and education.

I will say that because of the lack of healthcare leadership, this is how I decided to return to school for Healthcare Administration not only for my personal business but to help restructure the healthcare industry. As a business owner and healthcare professional I believe we need to think “Quality Over Quanity”. Quality will always be first in my book.

From your experience, What should aspiring health professionals be ready for before they enter the health industry?

Shamika: I would have to say the changes that are coming to the healthcare industry because of the healthcare shortage and how healthcare may restructure because of the dramatic changes due to the coronavirus. But this is nothing to be afraid of because at some point healthcare has to change for the better. Change is never comfortable but can have a great outcome in the end.

What are you most excited about this year?

Shamika: I’m super ecstatic about my Anthology. The Entrepreneurial Anthology: WIN Women In Nursing. I truly believe that women and nurses don’t understand the business advantage we have as healthcare professionals and what business we can actually start and run with what we went to school for. Especially my LPNs, LPNs are the most downgrade nurses no one sees our potential nor do they give us credit. Most of the time you often hear “ O.. She is just an LPN”.

We are more than just LPNs; we earned our degrees just as any other nurse in the healthcare Industry. I had to express this because our work as LPNs goes UNNOTICED. I applaud all the LPNs in the healthcare Industry. Thank you for your service. The Ideal of The Entrepreneurial Anthology WIN Women In Nursing was created to show all nurses there is another opportunity as a nurse professional. I’m excited about what God has for me. He is Enlarging my territory and making a way for me. I will stay the course and trust the process.
